Who is Alexa von Tobel?

Alexa von Tobel is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), New York Times bestselling author, fintech entrepreneur, and the founder of Financially Fearless. She rose to prominence by founding LearnVest in 2008 — a company built to make real financial planning accessible and affordable to everyday people, not just the wealthy.

Originally from Florida, Alexa attended Harvard College and Harvard Business School, dropping out of HBS to launch LearnVest. After raising roughly $75 million in venture capital, she sold the company to Northwestern Mutual in 2015 in one of the biggest fintech acquisitions of the decade, then served as the company's first-ever Chief Digital Officer and later its Chief Innovation Officer.

In 2019, she co-founded Inspired Capital, an early-stage venture firm, alongside former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. She's the author of three books — Financially Fearless (2013), Financially Forward (2019), and the kids' book Money Matters (2024) — and hosts the Inc. podcast The Founders Project. Her work has earned her a Forbes cover, Fortune's 40 Under 40, and a long list of other honors.

At her core, Alexa is on a mission to help people feel empowered and fearless about their money.
